Carlo Pellegrini (1839–1889) var en italiensk tecknare, född i Capua, som under signaturen Ape gjorde karikatyrer för den brittiska tidskriften Vanity Fair. Han var tidningens första och mest inflytelserika karikatyrtecknare och arbetade där från 1869 till 1889. Hans porträtt av samtida personer finns i butiken som posters och som inramade tavlor.

Om Carlo Pellegrini

Pellegrini tecknade sin egen samtid: politiker, diplomater, präster, affärsmän och kollegor ur konstlivet. Serien för Vanity Fair rymmer över två tusen karikatyrer, och hans blad för tidningen trycktes som litografier – karikatyren av Benjamin Disraeli 1869 var den första i färg och blev mycket populär. I London mötte han Degas, som han porträtterade omkring 1876–77. Whistler blev en stark influens, och Pellegrini försökte sig också på porträttmåleri i hans stil. Titlarna anger ofta vem som avbildas och vad personen gjorde.

I butiken finns 35 verk av Carlo Pellegrini, bland dem Dwight Lyman Moody (1875), Diplomacy – Lord Lyons och Ill-used – Sir James Hudson. Motiven är människor ur sin tid, och hängda sida vid sida på en vägg bildar de ett eget galleri av 1800-talets offentliga liv.
