Chinese (The Chinese) is an illustration from 1884 by the German artist Friedrich Hottenroth. The work belongs to a series of images in which Hottenroth depicted various European peoples and their history, and the subject is precisely a Chinese figure.

Hottenroth (1840–1917) dedicated his artistic career to portraying people and peoples from different regions, often with historical elements. His works span a long period, from the 13th century to 1884, which gives them a broad historical grounding.
